About Grinnell College

Grinnell College is a private liberal arts college in Grinnell, which is a city in the US state of Iowa, in Poweshiek County, with a population of more than 9000 inhabitants, estimated during the 2000 census.

Grinnell College was established in 1846, when a group of pioneer New England Congregationalists established the Trustees of Iowa College. It is nationally recognized as a leading undergraduate institution, and has been ranked consistently ranked in the top 18 liberal arts colleges in the nation, in U.S. News and World Report's rankings, since the publication began, in 1983.

Athletics

Grinnell's athletic teams are known as the Pioneers and they compete in 18 intercollegiate sports, at the NCAA Division III level and in the Midwest Conference. Their distinctive colors are scarlet and black.
